Ongoing Conversations

It is important for leaders to have frequent, candid performance conversations with their staff, using the techniques of coaching, modeling, reinforcing, and providing feedback. It is the mutual responsibility of the manager and staff member to work together to develop individual goals.

Three-Month Introductory Period Icon

Three-Month Introductory Period

The University has a three-month introductory period,* in which the manager and staff member may evaluate whether the employment relationship meets initial expectations. This period starts on the day of hire and concludes with the completion of the Three-Month Performance Review Form.

12-Month Review Icon

12-Month Review

The annual review period is a flexible 12-month time frame. It extends from the day following the end of the previous annual review period, as determined by the appropriate campus leader. Departments may use the Performance Management Form.

*The introductory period may be extended for up to an additional three months, if necessary. In addition to new hires, the introductory period applies to promotions and transfers.
