Plan Options
Wake Forest University offers two medical plan options:
- Low Plan: Lower premiums, larger deductible and out-of-pocket maximum
- High Plan: Higher premiums, lower deductible and out-of pocket maximum
Both plans offer prescription and behavioral health coverage.
Faculty and staff enrolled in the University’s Aetna medical plan may call 336.702.3322 (DEAC) for personalized assistance finding in-network Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist providers and/or providers with shorter wait times.
Enrolling or Making Changes
New Hires
- Enrollment is completed in Workday during the onboarding process.
- If adding a spouse and/or dependent child, submit the required dependent verification documentation.
- You will receive an ID card from Aetna.
Throughout the Year
- Log into Workday to elect coverage throughout the year following a qualifying event.
- Provide supplemental documentation for the event.
- If adding a spouse and/or dependent child, submit the required dependent verification documentation via Workday within 30 days of the event or by the Annual Benefits Enrollment deadline.

Teledoc Telehealth: Convenient Care Anytime
WFU offers a telehealth option with Teladoc through Aetna for both medical plans.
These secure video consults are available at a $10 copay for plan members and are a good option for minor health issues and behavioral health when you cannot see your regular doctor.
An additional Teladoc Caregiver option is now available for $56 per visit. You can add a loved one you care for to your Teladoc account and have two or three-way visits with a doctor.

Hinge Health: Back and Joint Program and Women’s Pelvic Health Program
The Aetna Back and Joint Care Program helps manage chronic joint and back pain through a partnership with Hinge Health.
This virtual physical therapy program features guided exercises and stretches with a tailored program based upon your job and level of fitness and is offered at no cost to you.
Hinge Health’s Women’s Pelvic Health (WPH) Program supports women at all stages of life, from early adulthood to after menopause, providing clinical care for the full continuum of pelvic floor disorders.
The Hinge Health Program is available on the Aetna member website. It has a direct connection to the Hinge Health online screener. The clinical screener is used to ensure that the program is suitable for your condition.

Tria Health: Expert Medication Support
Tria Health offers one-on-one phone consultations with clinical pharmacists who take the time to understand your needs, review your medications, and work with your doctor to create a care plan that works for you. It’s free and confidential.
Earn up to $150: By completing your consultation with a Tria Health pharmacist, you will receive a $50 Prepaid Mastercard. Members can qualify to receive up to $150 within a 12-month period.
Free Devices: Participants with diabetes and/or high blood pressure have access to a free blood glucose meter and testing supplies and/or a blood pressure monitor.
Weight Loss: With Tria Health’s Choose to Lose program, a free benefit available through your health plan, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with a health coach over the phone.

If you have elected medical coverage through Wake Forest, you are automatically enrolled in the prescription drug plan. The Low and High Plans offer the following in-network copayments for prescription drugs:

Preferred Network
Maintenance Medications
Aetna members can fill their mandatory maintenance medications at CVS Caremark® Mail Service Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy®, Costco, Harris Teeter , or Kroger. Note that members must fill a 90-day supply. To verify what pharmacies can fill maintenance medications, call RX Member Services at 888.792.3862. Members can use non-CVS pharmacies for non-maintenance medications.
Behavioral
If you have elected medical coverage through Wake Forest, you are automatically enrolled in the behavioral health plan at no additional cost. Licensed clinical case managers will connect you or your covered family members with in-network providers, specializing in mental health and substance abuse issues. The behavioral health plan includes coverage for Adaptive Behavioral Treatment (ABT).
- You will not receive a separate ID card.
- You can access Adaptive Behavioral Treatment services by calling Aetna at 800.424.4047. A clinician will help determine the services needed, the diagnosis, treatment planning, or therapy, and will direct you to an in-network provider.
