Annual Benefits Enrollment for benefits-eligible faculty and staff will take place in Workday from Oct. 12-23, 2026, with benefits effective Jan. 1, 2027.

You must actively enroll if you are changing benefit elections, adding or removing a dependent(s), planning to participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and/or if you are currently enrolled in the Voluntary AD&D with family coverage, as you will need to re-enroll during Open Enrollment if you wish to continue that coverage. FSA elections do not automatically renew from one year to the next and require active enrollment from each plan year.

Note: If you are currently enrolled in the Voluntary Life Legacy Plan (employee coverage), which has a maximum coverage of $150,000, that maximum coverage amount will be removed when we transition to the new Unum voluntary life plan. The legacy plan ties back to a one time open enrollment period with Cigna in 2009. The good news is with the removal of that maximum, you now can potentially elect up to the guaranteed issue without a medical application/evidence of insurability requirement during this special open enrollment period. This means, you can potentially elect more voluntary coverage than you have today. The guaranteed issue is the lesser of 3x your annual salary or up to $400,000.

Dependents and Beneficiaries

Faculty and staff who add a spouse and/or dependent child(ren) to the medical, dental, and/or vision plan(s) for the first time will need to upload the required dependent verification document(s) in Workday by Oct. 31.

Spousal Surcharge

A spousal surcharge will apply if your spouse has access to medical coverage through an outside employer but enrolls in the Wake Forest plan. This surcharge may be waived under certain conditions. Learn more about the spousal surcharge.
