MOVEit Software Data Security Incident
A recent global cybersecurity incident involving the MOVEit Transfer Software has affected two of Wake Forest’s third-party benefits administrators. Both TIAA, the University’s retirement plan administrator, and Genworth, Long Term Care Insurance Provider, have notified the University that Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”), a vendor with which both administrators have a contract uses the MOVEit software. TIAA has confirmed with the University that some WFU participants have been impacted. Wake Forest has not received confirmation from Genworth about whether any WFU participants have been impacted.
TIAA has informed Wake Forest that PBI will be sending notification letters and providing credit monitoring services to impacted individuals. TIAA has also indicated that it has not observed any related unusual activity from this event involving TIAA accounts.
PBI receives participants’ personal data and compares it against death notices and obituaries to assist companies with death claims and beneficiary processes, as required by law. The personal information of individuals impacted by this incident includes names, dates of birth, addresses, gender, and Social Security numbers. PBI has notified law enforcement and is working with a third-party cybersecurity and digital forensic specialist to identify the extent of the impact.
Wake Forest places a strong emphasis on data security, and we would like to take this opportunity to emphasize the significance of remaining vigilant in monitoring financial accounts and credit histories. Safeguarding personal information is of utmost importance, and we encourage everyone to stay proactive in ensuring the security and privacy of their financial data.
TIAA encourages all participants to take a few simple steps to help ensure their online safety. The University strongly recommends reviewing the provided guidelines and following the recommended measures to safeguard your personal information.
The University will remain in communication with TIAA and Genworth and will update employees as more information becomes available.
