COVID Opportunities are now posted to the
Internal Career Portal.

*COVID Opportunities are only available for current non-exempt staff who are working reduced hours or furloughed.

The coronavirus pandemic has created a new set of workforce needs and opportunities at the university. Human Resources has developed a program that redeploys the Wake Forest talent we already have by matching current exempt and non-exempt staff on furlough or working a reduced schedule with departments who have a specific COVID-related business need.

How does this help staff members?

This gives colleagues working a reduced schedule an opportunity to make their schedule full with additional responsibilities. COVID opportunities also provide cross-training experiences and help colleagues expand their knowledge of other university functions and professional skill sets.

How does this help the university?

By redirecting our talented workforce on furlough or working a reduced schedule to these new needs, the university is able to meet those needs internally. The internal opportunities also help build capacity and cross-functional knowledge among staff members and bolster engagement, thereby strengthening workforce agility and organizational health.

Manager Instructions

Managers who have a COVID-related business need should complete the Manager Request Form. Managers who want to fill a mission critical permanent position which isn’t directly COVID-related should continue to use the typical job posting and recruitment process in Workday

What does COVID-related mean?

COVID-related opportunities are temporary positions in which the business need is directly derived from the coronavirus pandemic. Examples include workers to conduct additional sanitation measures, additional assistance at the university call center, and new COVID-19 contact tracer positions. These opportunities would not be needed in the absence of the pandemic.

Manager Process

If your opportunity is (1) COVID-related and (2) temporary, complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Manager Request Form.
  2. HR will contact you to confirm details and answer any questions.

Internal Applicant Instructions

Non-exempt staff who are currently furloughed or working reduced hours can now apply for a part-time COVID Opportunity via the Workday Internal Career Portal.

Important Unemployment Considerations

It is important that staff members currently on furlough completely understand how taking advantage of a COVID Opportunity could potentially impact their unemployment benefits. Staff members are encouraged to have a conversation with HR to determine if they should contact the NC Division of Employment Security (DES) directly to understand this impact.
