Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff may be hired on a full- or part-time basis, as follows:

  • Full-time faculty work 1,096-1,462 hours per year with benefits; full-time staff work 1,560-2,080 hours per year with benefits.
  • Part-time/adjunct faculty work 1,000-1,095 hours per year with benefits; part-time staff work 1,000-1,559 hours per year with benefits.
  • Faculty and staff may work less than 1,000 hours without benefits.

Hiring Process

Obtain approval from your Dean, Department Head, and/or Budget Officer.

Faculty and Staff

Full-Time Faculty

If you have identified a candidate, work with your department to send Human Resources an appointment letter with the position title, candidate’s name, and salary information. If you would like to launch a search, complete the Job Posting Request form and upload the required documentation.

Part-Time/Adjunct Faculty

The College: Complete the Part-Time and Adjunct Faculty Payroll Request form; send it to the Dean’s Office, who will send a copy to Human Resources.

The Professional Schools: If the individual is a new hire or rehire, complete the Onboarding Request form and upload the appointment letter. If the individual is a continuing faculty member, email AskHR@nullwfu.edu with the details of your request; a member of the Human Resources team will email a secure form.

Full-Time Staff

Complete the Job Posting Request form and upload the required documentation.

Part-Time Staff

If you have identified a candidate, complete the Onboarding Request form. If you are posting a benefits-eligible position, complete the Job Posting Request form and upload the required documentation.

Temporary Employees

Complete the Temporary Employee Request form.

Student Employees

Log in to WIN and click the “WF@Work” tab. Click the “Electronic Personnel Action Form” (EPAF) link to submit an EPAF. If you have not been set up as an EPAF originator, email AskHR@nullwfu.edu.

Background Checks

Wake Forest University is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community. Accordingly, the University conducts background checks for all final candidates considered for long-term or temporary employment, as well as drug screens for all final staff candidates. These checks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Criminal history
  • National sex offender search
  • Credit history
  • Motor vehicle history

The University’s exclusive background check vendor is Orange Tree.


The University must complete an Employment Verification (E-Verify) within three business days of a new hire starting work. This will determine their eligibility to work in the United States, as required by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA).

  • Faculty and staff: Human Resources conducts E-Verify for incoming faculty and staff.
  • Student employees: Departmental representatives who oversee student employees complete E-Verify for these individuals. Contact Human Resources for information about whether the student has already completed E-Verify (if they worked last semester or are currently working in another department, they do not need to complete E-Verify again).

E-Verify compares information entered from an employee’s Form I-9 to data in Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records. Employers who fail to complete or retain this form are subject to penalties.
