Spousal/Same-Sex Domestic Partner Surcharge

Wake Forest University is implementing a medical plan spousal/same-sex domestic partner surcharge beginning July 1, 2014.  This surcharge will apply if your spouse/partner has access to medical coverage through an outside employer but enrolls in the Wake Forest plan.

Surcharge Waiver

The surcharge will be waived if any of the below conditions apply to your spouse/partner.  He/She:

  • Is not eligible as an employee for medical coverage through his/her employer
  • Works for an employer that does not offer medical benefits
  • Does not work
  • Is self-employed
  • Works at Wake Forest University Reynolda Campus

Surcharge Will Apply

The surcharge will apply if any of the below conditions apply to your spouse/partner.  He/She:

  • Is eligible for medical coverage through his/her employer, but is covered on the Wake Forest medical plan
  • Is eligible and enrolled for medical coverage through his/her employer, and covered on the Wake Forest medical plan

Surcharge Cost

  • Exempt Faculty and Staff = $75 per month (pre-tax for a spouse; post-tax for a partner)
  • Biweekly Staff = $34.61 per pay cycle (pre-tax for a spouse; post-tax for a partner)
