Paid Time Off (PTO) – Staff

The University maintains a PTO program to provide staff the opportunity to take time away from work without loss of compensation. This is an inclusive time off program, intended for use in connection with:

  • Vacations
  • Short-term injuries and illnesses (non-work related) of five days or less
  • Personal business
  • Family care
  • Other needs which may require time off from work.

All full- and part-time staff regularly scheduled (budgeted) to work 1,000 hours or more per year are eligible for PTO. Additional details are available in the Paid Time Off policy (click for an important note about the policy).

The University manages PTO electronically for all staff through NOVAtime. Across all departments, staff paid monthly should use the system to request PTO. Additionally, this provides supervisors with a convenient way to click to approve PTO requests. Educational resources, including Quick Guides and classes, are available on the “Training Information” section of the NOVAtime home page.

Staff paid biweekly use NOVAtime to record hours worked, as well as PTO.

The Paid Time Off policy was revised July 2013.  Updates were communicated via:
